Zelensky introduced amendments to extend martial law and mobilization

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted to the Verkhovna Rada bills on extending martial law in the country and the timing of mobilization, follows from the database of the Ukrainian parliament.

Both documents were submitted by Zelensky on August 12.

The first bill called “On the extension of martial law in Ukraine”, the second & mdash; “On the extension of the term for the general mobilization.” The texts of the bills have not been published on the website of the Rada.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak told UNIAN that the bills would be considered in the coming days. “They are talking about a 90-day extension, but we have to wait for an official document,” — he added.

Martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine were announced on February 24, the day the Russian special operation began. Initially, such measures were taken by the Rada for a month, and later, at the initiative of Zelensky, they were extended for another 30 days.

At the end of May, the Ukrainian parliament extended martial law for three months at once— until August 23, a similar decision was made regarding the mobilization.

During the period of martial law, the Ukrainian authorities may declare a curfew; establish a special mode of entry and exit; restrict the freedom of movement of citizens, foreigners and stateless persons, as well as the movement of vehicles. In addition, the country may ban the activities of certain political parties or resort to other measures.

The Russian operation in Ukraine has been ongoing since the end of February.
