Upgraded T-62MV tanks spotted in Ukraine. The main difference between these combat vehicles — hinged dynamic protection “Contact-1”, which allows you to withstand various types of cumulative ammunition.

Currently, the T-62MV in Ukraine are used as mobile firing points, supporting the actions of infantry units with fire from 115-mm guns. The first combat use of this modification occurred during the hostilities in Syria, it is in service with government troops.

The main difference between the T-62MV — dynamic protection, including on the side projections. There is also a modification of the T-62D with the Drozd active defense system, capable of destroying ATGMs and RPGs approaching at speeds up to 700 m/s. A V-55U diesel engine with a power of 620 hp was installed on some of the tanks. or V-46-5M with a capacity of 690 liters. With. The weight of the tank is 37 tons. Power plants allow you to reach a maximum speed of about 50 km/h.

In addition to the 115-mm smoothbore semi-automatic gun, the tank is armed with the 9K116-2 Sheksna guided weapon system, some of the vehicles were equipped with the NSVT anti-aircraft machine gun. The fire control system “Volna” is responsible for aiming. There is also a smoke grenade launcher and a napalm defense system. The T-62 has an anti-nuclear protection system that protects the tank crew from overpressure created by the shock wave of a nuclear explosion and from the penetration of radioactive dust into the tank.

The main drawback of the design of this tank is the lack of an automatic loader, because of this, the crew does not consist of three, as in most modern tanks, but of four people: a driver, commander, gunner and loader.

Second echelon tank

In total, about 20 thousand T-62 tanks of various modifications were produced. T-62M — the most modern, its characteristic feature was the so-called “eyebrows of Ilyich”; — massive armored blocks on both sides of the gun embrasure, and the sides are covered with rubber-fabric screens 10 mm thick. The T-62M was put into service in 1983; in terms of combat effectiveness, it reaches the level of the early T-64A and T-72. The exception is firepower, it was also equipped with a 115 mm smoothbore gun, inferior to the 125 mm gun of more modern tanks. In Russia, according to some sources, up to 2,500 T-62Ms are stored in the mobilization reserve.

Reports that T-62M tanks were being transferred from Russian military reserves to Ukraine began to appear in February. Probably, the T-62 will be used as fixed firing points on 2-3 lines of defense in depth in dangerous areas. This tank is able to protect the rear, support the cleansing of the territory and suppress it with artillery fire. This tank will protect important objects in the rear, as well as replace modern equipment at checkpoints. The main advantage of the T-62M is that it can be serviced and operated by a newly recruited crew without the need for significant training or experience,
