Ukraine and Turkey agreed to restore destroyed infrastructure

Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov and Turkish Minister of Trade Mehmet Mus signed an agreement on the restoration of Ukrainian infrastructure destroyed as a result of the conflict, Haber TV channel reports.

The agreement provides for the creation of a Task Force for the Reconstruction of Ukraine by the two countries. The group will coordinate the reconstruction of social and economic facilities such as roads, bridges, water and electricity facilities, hospitals and schools.

The documents were signed in the presence of the Presidents of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Potocki Palace. The Turkish leader, together with UN Secretary General António Guterres, arrived in Lviv for a trilateral meeting closed to the press.

Ukraine estimates the amount needed to restore the country at $750 billion, the Kyiv delegation named this amount of funds at a special conference in Switzerland in early July. The parties agreed to allocate a $1.9 billion loan to Ukraine, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal clarified: we are talking about $600 million for financial support, more than $500 million for the development of the agricultural sector, more than $500 million for preparations for the heating season and almost $250 million for development projects of the country's digital transformation.

About $30–100 should be allocated per year for the restoration of Ukraine, Timofei Mylovanov, adviser to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, estimated at the end of July. He clarified that $20–30 billion of them are planned to be allocated annually to support the macroeconomics, a similar amount is required to maintain the army.

The Kremlin criticizes such proposals. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it had become illegal and “blatant” event. “Actual outright theft”, — he emphasized.
