The Russian armed forces « belatedly engaged » introduction of unmanned vehicles. This was stated in an interview with RBC by Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov, who is in charge of the military-industrial complex, answering the question of what conclusions were drawn almost four months after the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.

“I think that we are belatedly engaged in the serious introduction of unmanned vehicles. This is objective. Although the Syrian conflict has pushed us to this, — Borisov said. He added that Russia is dynamically developing in this direction. “We have almost all types of unmanned vehicles: reconnaissance, strike, tactical, operational and operational-tactical,” — said the Deputy Prime Minister.

Borisov noted that the defense industry will increase the mass production of drones, but “everything is not done overnight.” At the same time, in terms of their parameters, Russian UAVs are not inferior to Turkish ones and, in particular, to the “widely advertised Bayraktars” that the Ukrainian army purchased, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

In May, the Turkish Ministry of Defense released a video with the results of tests of a more powerful compared to Bayraktar. drone— “Bayraktar Akinchi” (Bayraktar Akinci, from Turkish — "Famous Raider"). Akinci drones flew through three countries: they took off in Turkey, flew over Georgia, and landed in Azerbaijan. They covered two thousand kilometers in five hours.

An apparatus weighing 5.5 tons can carry up to 1,350 kg of guided missiles and guided bombs. Akinci is able to stay in the air for up to a day, its flight altitude— 12 kilometers, and the maximum speed— 360 km/h The drone is equipped with Ukrainian Ivchenko-Progress engines. It was reported that Ukraine will receive this drone before the end of this year.

What to Expect from the Giant's SharesThe combat effectiveness of the drone “Bayraktar Akinchi” is determined rather than by the technical parameters of the unmanned vehicle itself, but by the payload that it is capable of carrying, Borisov noted. We are talking about an anti-ship missile with a range of 300 km, Russia has similar aircraft weapons, the Deputy Prime Minister specified. “They need to be married to drones. In terms of their carrying capacity, in terms of their capabilities, modern unmanned aerial vehicles “Pacer”, “Altius” allow you to take such a payload and work,»,— Borisov explained, noting that these drones “are at the final stage, being put into mass production.” “With a slight lag, we, of course, will close this gap,” — concluded the Deputy Prime Minister.

As noted by the reserve colonel, editor of the Moskovsky Komsomolets department of law enforcement agencies; Sergey Valchenko, the Russian army does not yet have such heavy drones weighing several tons. “They are only being developed so far and will not appear in the army soon,” — Valchenko wrote.

It is expected that the only Russian HALE-class drone with a mass of up to 6 tons, which is called Altius-U, which has been developed for more than ten years, (former name “Altair”) will be able to stay in the air for up to 48 hours at an altitude of up to 12 kilometers. Initially, it was developed for German RED A03/V12 diesel engines, but then the engines fell under sanctions. To replace KB them. Klimov created the VK-800V engine. The contract for the supply of the first batch of reconnaissance and strike UAVs of this type to the military was signed in 2021. It is not known when they will actually enter the troops.
