The United States plans to allocate about $1 billion to complete the Iron Dome missile defense system (ABM) after the escalation of the conflict with Gaza in May 2021. Joe Biden will visit Israel in mid-July. During the visit, he will visit the sites of the Iron Dome missile defense systems, as well as discuss possible cooperation in the field of innovation in the defense industry between the two countries.
In addition, the American president will visit the West Bank of the Jordan River, where he will meet with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas. During the trip, Biden will also hold cooperation talks with Israeli and Indian Prime Ministers Naftali Bennet and Narendra Modi as part of the virtual I2-U2 summit (which brings together India, Israel, the UAE and the United States).
In May 2021, the situation in the Gaza Strip escalated. For more than ten days, Israel has been attacking Gaza in response to missile launches from there. In total, according to the Israel Defense Forces, the Gaza Strip then fired about 4,000 missiles across the country, most of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system.
