Ukraine is negotiating to provide it with modern tanks and aircraft, Western countries have not yet made a decision on this issue, said Oleksiy Reznikov

Kyiv's requests to Western partners for the provision of modern aircraft and tanks remain unfulfilled, the Ukrainian said Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov on the air of “Military Television of Ukraine”.

“This is an issue that we continue to discuss with partners, to convince us that we also need it. A political decision on the provision of modern tanks and aircraft has not yet been made,— said the minister (quote from TSN).

He noted that the US authorities last year refused to supply Stinger man-portable air defense systems to Ukraine, but the deliveries began after the start of the Russian military operation. Now, according to Reznikov, Ukraine has received about 1 thousand Stinger complexes.

The Minister called the “tectonic shift” receiving Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts from Germany. he said, adding that the capabilities of the Ukrainian fleet will be strengthened and Kyiv will receive more multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

Reznikov also explained why the delivery of some weapons and equipment from other countries takes a long time: we receive things from the armed forces or from warehouses to be reactivated, restored <…>. Plus, we need to teach our guys and finance instructors. And this is two or three weeks of preparation, their living at the training ground.

Western countries began to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine against the backdrop of the Russian military operation that began on February 24. Since then, they have supplied or pledged to supply Kyiv with weapons, military equipment and funds for military purposes totaling approximately $38.5 billion. and for delivered or promised equipment, includes the USA, Great Britain, Poland, Germany and Canada.

Washington has sent $6.1 billion in military aid to Kyiv since late February. The Russian side has repeatedly accused Western countries of “pumping” Ukraine with weapons and warned that convoys with foreign weapons would become “legitimate targets” Russian army. Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that if long-range shells were supplied to Ukraine, there would be a risk of strikes against Russian cities. Both Washington and Kyiv ruled out such a scenario.
