The new head of the military-civilian administration of the Zaporozhye region, Evgeny Balitsky, said that the authorities would like to hold a referendum on joining Russia on September 11— on the same voting day. He said this in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.
Balitsky, speaking about the preparations for the vote, noted that “the process is not going as fast as we would like.”
“We are ready from an administrative point of view. I instructed to prepare for the referendum, we launched the procedure. Yes, we still hope that we will be able to hold a referendum in September, but it depends on many factors. If now Ukraine starts blackmailing us with a nuclear reactor?»— he asked.
At the same time, the official did not rule out holding a joint referendum with the Kherson region, Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics.
“Yes, we are discussing such a format. We work with Kherson residents in unison, we work with Lugansk, Donetsk. I communicate with the leaders [of the republics]. Of course, we would like to spend it together, & mdash; said Balitsky.
At the end of July, the pro-Russian authorities of the Zaporozhye region did not rule out that they could schedule a vote on the same day as the Kherson region— in the first half of September.
