NATO claims global dominance, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at the Army-2022 forum, RIA Novosti reports.
“NATO has dropped its masks. The aggressive nature of the bloc was no longer hidden behind formulations about the exclusively defensive orientation of coalition activities. Today, the alliance's strategic planning documents contain claims for global dominance,— said the head of the Ministry of Defense.
At the end of June, the heads of state— members of the North Atlantic Alliance adopted a new strategic concept of NATO, in which Russia is called the most significant and direct threat to the security of the bloc. At the same time, the document notes that the alliance does not seek confrontation and does not pose a threat to Russia, and is also ready to keep channels of communication with Moscow open, despite the fact that it no longer considers it a partner.
The Russian leadership is not the first time accuses NATO of an aggressive policy towards Moscow. In particular, the first deputy head of the presidential administration, Sergei Kiriyenko, said that the bloc was conducting a “hot military operation”; against Russia on the territory of Ukraine.
Relations between Russia and the alliance deteriorated sharply after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called the Russian military actions “the most dangerous situation in Europe since the Second World War” and urged not to allow Moscow's policy to be successful.

At the same time, as the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, said, NATO does not seek confrontation with Russia and does not serve as a threat to it.
The Kremlin responded that the threat to Europe was the expansion NATO infrastructure to the east and the change of power in Ukraine. According to the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, the current situation in Europe “was provoked by NATO's aggressive attack”, and the wave-like approach of the alliance to the Russian borders created a danger.
