The American company Apple demanded that Rutube hide the materials of Russian state media in the iOS application, RBC was told in the press service of the video hosting.

Apple proposed two ways to solve the problem. First— is to remove state-sponsored media content and the second— make the application available only for Russian users.

Apple has given two weeks to make changes, otherwise it will remove the app from the store. The Rutube team has already restricted access to the application for users from countries other than Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. “Developers are forced to take such a step in order to give users the new functionality that they are waiting for,” — The company explained.

It does not plan to impose restrictions on the distribution of Russian media, since this “violates the rights of the Russian-speaking population.”

On Rutube, in particular, the media, journalists and bloggers who are blocked on YouTube are represented, recalled the press service of the video hosting. Among them— Channel One, Russia 1, NTV, RT, Vladimir Solovyov and others.

YouTube began blocking Russian media channels in March amid the events in Ukraine. Video hosting has also suspended all monetization methods on its platform in Russia.

In Roskomnadzor, the actions of the administration of the video hosting were called censorship and demanded to stop “discrimination” and ensure free access to Russian media. At the end of July, the Federal Antimonopoly Service found that “the rules related to the formation, suspension, blocking of accounts and the circulation of user content on YouTube are opaque, biased and unpredictable.” In this regard, the department issued Google (owns YouTube) a turnover fine of 2 billion rubles.
